We visited the temple at the end of the local New Years celebrations and it was crowded and very busy. This did not Spoil our visit one bit, watching all these pilgrims and visitors added to our enjoyment. We hired a local guide and he got us and round the visit in good time, he was very pleasant and informative, his jokes were a little dated and came thick and fast but he was fun. 1
This would fall into the "Not another bloody Church category" for many, but we feel it is well worth the visit

We recently visited the temple and we were lucky enough to step bit closer inside the temple which is the closest that a ordinary person can go inside the temple even without that the temple is tells a story of Buddhism in Sri Lanka with a long history, very peaceful place even its get full with people, don't forget to explore many shrines etc around the temple

You cant get in there if you wear hijab. And it is ridiculous because it is the attraction place for tourist to visit. They ask to take of the hijab if want to visit. I dont see hijab is the problem here. Come on. We are tourist man. Cut is some slack. I dont feel like wanna come to sri lanka again. This is the first and the last

Probably the most sacred Buddhist temple in the region where the sacred tooth of Buddha is kept.
A must see when in Kandy. Big pilgrimage and celebration during July and August.
