We stayed here for three nights at the end of our Honeymoon to Sri Lanka. The location is only 15 minutes north of Hikkaduwa, but feels like a world away. Although situated along the road, it is very peaceful and we never noticed any noise. The rooms, garden and pool are all fabulous and the beach which is accessible outside was empty apart from a number of local children playing nearby. I would suggest to anyone to stay here if you are looking for a peaceful retreat, but with easy access to nearby town of Hikkaduwa should you wish. Special mention must go to Ranjan and the staff here who couldn't do enough for us. Ranjan even gave me a lift in the rain to nearby Ambalongoda on one occasion so i could get a couple of beers from the shop. Him and his staff really make this place special. We were also lucky enough to release some turtles in to the sea on our first evening. From what I gather, the team here will protect the eggs until they hatch and ensure they are released in a natural and non-intrusive way. Also - we had the same tuk-tuk driver every day who would take us to Hikkaduwa or nearby mask museum - i didn't catch his name but he appeared to be a friend of the hotel and was incredibly friendly and kind. So thanks Ruth, Ranjan and the team for a fabulous last few days in Sri Lanka, we will always remember this place in a special way.…
This boutique hotel combines modern with colonial style. It is with its wonderful garden andth is large sea water pool like an own island. Large suites with a living area a bed in colonial style and big bathrooms let you feel like in your own house. The staff is fulfilling every wish before you finished thinking it. Ranshin who is the staff leader and the manager of the property is a great cook and is asking you every day for your special demands. We enjoyed every evening a different dinner and ate on different places (in the garden, on the balcony or in the Villa). Fresh juices, fruits, and vegetables whatever the Sri Lankan kitchen could provide, Ranshin was able to serve it. We can recommend this place also because it is not in a highly frequented touristic area. Ambalangoda is more surrounded by nice local people with some other holiday apartments around but close to shops or neighbor-citys if you are looking for offers for tourists like snorkeling, diving or other things. Max Wadiya has its own beach area whats wonderful and quiet. No beach boys around what was one of the best news we got. Wheather in October was better than in April. The humidity wasn't that high, but some rainy hours we had. Bit I think thats normal for October. Overall it was great wheather and we could enjoy a lot of things in the sun. We can say it worth every penny we paid and thats why we give this location 5 points. Thanks for a great time and for the culinary experience.…
My family (kids ages 6,10,12) recently traveled from the U.S. to Sri Lanka for 10 days. Our last 4 days were spent at Max Wadiya. We had day trips planned but canceled because we could not bring ourselves to leave Max Wadiya, Ranjan (manager) and his team. The family villa, beach and pool are stunning. We had the beach to ourselves- so peaceful and beautiful. My kids loved body surfing the waves. When the waves became more intense they were off to the pool which is quite large. We also had the pool to ourselves as no-one else was booked during our stay. :) I can’t possibly say enough about Ranjan and his team. Kind, gracious and incredible cooks. Ranjan happily accommodated my children when they were craving western foods and they loved his cooking. My husband and I enjoyed the Sri Lankan dishes which were fresh, plentiful, always different and beyond delicious. The best meals we had on our trip hands down were all at Max Wadiya. Our kids watched turtles hatch with Ranjan and later helped to release them into the sea at sundown- twice! Those memories will last a lifetime for them. Ranjan is so kind, interesting and easy to talk to. We all miss him! Last but certainly not least, Ruth Max, the owner, could not have been more helpful when I was planning this trip for my family. Sri Lanka is the farthest I have traveled with my children to date. She went above and beyond to help and quickly eased my nerves. Sri Lanka is a beautiful country with the kindest people (they love kids) and there is SO much to see. Max Wadiya was the perfect end point to relax on the beach before heading back to the airport. I only wish we had more than 4 nights there. Go and let Ranjan and his team spoil you. The beach is amazing. …
Four of us recently spent 5 days enjoying the splendor of the Max Wadiya. The building was exquisitely decorated, the rooms were very attractive and comfortable (and air conditioned!), the staff was always at our beck and call, and the food was out-of-this-world in both taste and presentation! Ranjan, the property manager, went above and beyond to arrange a fascinating series of local day trips and local activities for us. His menus were varied, exciting, and food was plentiful. One of the highlights of our stay was our Sri Lankan cooking lesson with Ranjan. It was unseasonably hot during our visit, and we were thrilled to relax in the lovely pool overlooking the sea every day! I would very highly recommend the Max Wadiya to visitors in this area!
I spent some wonderful days at Max Wadiya with a small family group. It was perfect in every way - all the staff were friendly and very helpful; Ranjan, the manager was incredibly warm, caring and capable - and an amazing cook. We really enjoyed the best of Sri Lankan foods including a cooking lesson and a complimentary collection of spices to take home. My room was so beautiful and comfortable, with a beautiful view and a large balcony overlooking the yard and the sea. The bathroom facilities and amenities were excellent. The Wadiya property is beautiful boasting a large salt water swimming pool which we hated to leave. The gardens were lush and the two outdoor gazebos let us eat all our meals al fresco in comfort as we gazed at the sea and listened to the surf. There were dozens of butterflies and birds. We had fresh fruit drinks whenever we liked. The manager helped us plan excellent day trips. The island was pretty hot and humid so if you're very sensitive to that, beware but we managed fine. The only downside is how long it takes to get there from the States but we broke up our trip on the way there, which I recommend doing.…
