We were sitting on the headland in Unawatuna, just chilling at sunset, watching the waves come crashing in, when a beautiful bride and groom arrived to take their wedding shots. Unawatuna wedding photography on these sunset cliffs with their dramatic ocean backdrop are big news I guess. We loved Unawatuna, such a cute little town now, still, even after the tsunami devastation.
I didn’t have my big camera with me, I was just messing about, trying to take pictures of the kids on my phone for our family memories, not for the website.
The bride looked amazing in a full pink dress, so tropical against the Indian Ocean sunset.
I guess the photographer asked her to step down a little further for the best possible angle.
Everyone was distracted for a moment, a shared joke with close relatives, when BAM!!!
The biggest wave you could possibly imagine soaked the poor love to the skin.
And that’s putting it mildly.
I’ve never seen such a comprehensive dousing in my life.
I’m sharing these photos, they’re not good, but capture the moment, because that bride came out smiling and laughing like a trooper.
The wedding photographer didn’t catch that, he was busy mopping down his camera and trying to save his memory card. I was just so impressed by that young woman as she posed for more photos, still laughing.
So if you’re out there beautiful bride in pink, this is what happened from our perspective.
What an incredible start to married life!
I hope these photos find their way to you and I hope you enjoy them. And as we say in Australia, “Good on ya!”.
Congratulations and I’m really sorry I didn’t have my good camera to capture your triumph over the sea.
What a girl, what a good sport. We love your happiness when so many would have cried. Enjoy your marriage, enjoy your wedding photos, have a wonderful life!
