What do you mean by child friendly? Do you mean water safety? There are big waves. Kids will need close supervision. My boys love the waves there but it’s not without danger. Most of Sri Lanka has big waves. Lots of rips. The surf end isn’t safe at all for kids, surfers, sea urchins, rocks, the surfers look like they’re having fun though. Then you have a broad middle section, then another headland and another bay. It gets deep fast there.

Hi Amy,

I ‘ve been looking through your Sri Lankan beaches report. Thanks a lot! I’ve seen in the comments this line:
“But I can tell you how to see Anuradhapura for practically free, it’s in a post here. ” We’d love to visit Anuradhapura! May I ask you about your tip? I’d be much appreciative as entrance fees here is something 😉

Have a good day!

Hi Kaylie,
Well Sri Lanka is a really small country so the drive times are great. We’re not into beaches much, so we’d check out maybe 1 beach place for 2-3 days on the west-south coast, before moving up through the highlands, Kandy and the historic and cultural sites. I’d ideally stay near Galle, so Galle could be an easy day trip by bus.
