Using the playground during Covid-19
There will be a reduced capacity of 150 visitors at any one time and all children must be accompanied by an adult.
With the current reduced capacity you may experience queues to enter the playground, particularly at weekends. Busiest times tend to be during the first two hours after opening at 10am, and the hour before closing at 4:45pm. We recommend planning to visit outside these hours.
Please note: a queuing system has been put in place for entry to the playground and for access to the toilets, in order to facilitate social distancing. Food will NOT be permitted in the playground.
Please bring your own hand sanitiser and use it before and after you have touched any surfaces in the playground, and please observe social distancing at all times.
Unfortunately, the water features are not in use at this time.
Please note: It is not possible to guarantee that playgrounds and outdoor gyms are secure from Covid-19 and visitors use them at their own risk.
A huge wooden pirate ship is the amazing centrepiece of the Diana, Princess of Wales' Memorial Playground. This children's wonderland opened on the 30th June 2000, in memory of the late Princess.
Located next to her Kensington Palace home, the playground is a fitting tribute for a Princess who loved the innocence of childhood.
Over 1,000,000 visitors enjoy this free playground each year. Kids love to play, explore, dash about, and let their imaginations soar in this magical space. There is a sensory trail, teepees, a beach around the pirate ship and various toys and play sculptures; all set against a lush backdrop of trees and plants. There's plenty of seating so the grownups can relax too.
The design has created an area where less able and able-bodied children can play together and seeks to provide for the physical, creative, social and educational development of your children. Inspired by the stories of Peter Pan, the playground encourages children to explore and follow their imaginations, learning whilst they play.
Opening times
The playground will be closed for maintenance for a week from Monday 10th to Friday 14th May.
- May to August: 10.00 - 19.45
- April and September: 10.00 - 18.45
- March and early October: 10.00 - 17.45
- February and late October: 10.00 - 16.45
- November to January: 10.00 - 15.45
Please note that the last entry is 15 minutes prior to closing time.
Admission and queue management
To ensure safety and security of children, only adults supervising children up to the age of 12 will be admitted.
Children should not be allowed to enter or leave the playground without an adult carer.
On busy days when playground reaches full capacity, queue management will be in place. This is dictated by Health and Safety reasons.
On warm, sunny days the queue can start as early as 10:30am and last until the last admission time.
Waiting times can range between 15 minutes up to one hour.
Joining the party / re-admission
Relatives and friends, who arrive after your admission, that wish to join your party will be asked to join the queue. Please show courtesy to others, majority young children, standing in the queue and follow instruction of staff in this matter.
If any of the adult carers leaves the playground with the intention of returning, please ensure the playground staff are aware of this otherwise problems with regaining access may occur. This is particularly important when the queue is in place.
Please note: unaccompanied adults may only enter the playground between 9.30 and 10.00.
Safety precautions
The playground is likely to be very busy at all times. For everyone's safety and enjoyment please observe the following:
- Please supervise your children at all times
- Glass bottles or jars are not allowed
- Cycling, rollerblading and ball sports are not allowed
- Smoking is not permitted in the playground
- Alcohol is not permitted in the playground
- Only registered Assistance Dogs will be permitted
Supervision
This playground is permanently attended when open. The playground staff will monitor activities, provide first aid and summon any other assistance that might be required. There will always be at least one member of staff on duty who is first aid qualified. It is the parents/carers responsibility to supervise their children. Children must not be left unaccompanied.
Schools and large groups
With the current safety measures in place we cannot accommodate schools and large groups and the online booking system has been disabled. Please be aware of this restriction to avoid school groups being disappointed when entry is refused.
We are assessing the suitability of schools returning through a series of trials. Once the conditions have satisfied our COVID 19 risk assessment we will reinstate the online booking system.
