I can't say enough to tell people to come here. The amount of time, money, research and super effort put into making this village so fabulous is astounding. If you live in Cairns or surrounding areas, you really need to come here with your family and get a real history lesson. Big shout out to the gentleman who looks after the cars, engines, tractors etc who looked after our little boy so well. Also make sure you check out the blacksmith. read less

Many are run by volunteers and suffer from a... read moreThere are untold numbers of museums containing historic items around Australia. Many are run by volunteers and suffer from a lack of funding to properly present their items. This does not apply to this property, scores of millions of dollars of private money have gone into this property and it shows. It well deserves a lengthy visit. The owners are likely well aware of the following opportunities for improvement. The electric lighting in the some of the buildings does not do the excellent displays justice and while no doubt they wish to retain the original roofing for authenticity purposes they should consider doing what they did at the end the end of the old cars garage which was to remove two sheets of metal roofing and replace it with translucent sheeting. The natural light flooding into that area really enhances the viewing of the awesome vehicles displayed in that area. They may find that in the long run they will cover the sheeting cost by saving from running so much artificial light. The only other opportunity for improvement is the tea room , very limited offering and most visitors we spoke to also mentioned that point. read less

The number and quality of the exhibits is outstanding and, being in our seventies, was like a trip down memory lane. At the same time, the families and young children were also thoroughly enjoying their visit.

The map is easy to follow and the staff were all friendly. It is definitely able to entertain and inform anyone for a whole day.

The extensive range of reconstructed historic buildings covers many different aspects of life in earlier times and each building is crammed with interesting exhibits. Without exception, all of the exhibits are well displayed and carefully maintained and the extent of the collection is staggering. This is the most comprehensive collection of this kind that I have seen anywhere in Australia. Although a little off the beaten track , it is well worth a diversion to enjoy this amazing and unique collection of Australiana. read less

We spent 2.5 hours here but could easily have spent another one or two - take snacks and water and you’ll be set for a day out. The gardens are in excellent condition, the staff are knowledgeable and passionate and the whole facility was far bigger than we expected. You can go in every building, each of which has displays and information boards within. This is well worth its admission price and a great day out for all ages! read less
