Because cruise ships have such a shockingly bad environmental footprint, we won’t be taking them again. I think some will go under and cease operation. My husband is a Chef, executive chef, in 5 star hotels, you’ll never get top-end food in mass catering and certainly not on buffets, but he felt Norwegian did a superb job within their limitations. Thanks for your comparison between these two cruise lines. If you’re referring to what we paid, did I say it was $30 per day? If so, yes, that’s what we paid. The kids were free so that dropped our prices considerably. And they eat a lot more than us. This was about 7 years ago though, our cruising section on this site is pretty old. These Norgwegian ships will be old-timers now.

Lately, retired and bored, I tried again with Azamara and Norwegian. Azamara had ingredients like escargot and English bacon every day, but their wines were high-end but flavor free and mixed drinks tasted only of sugar. Enjoyable single-vineyard wine is really expensive; lower-end GOOD wines on Norwegian were so much better. Norwegian had lower-end food ingredients but equally good food and much better wine and mixed drinks, so I continued with Norwegian and have been happy. I cruise just to eat well without effort, sort of as I’d go to an inn, but what inn is $30/day? What breakfast + lunch + dinner is $30? 20 customers vs 2000 customers makes cruising a restaurant or inn bargain. So I think of cruising as eating out on vacation plus accommodation and transportation. I don’t even get off the ship half the time. But with coronavirus, I think cruising is going to lose some lines and some quality before it’s all over. I felt quality fell after the loss of Cuba cruises, for a line that had lots of action there.

First we were thought to be looking for men and the harassment by the ship employees got so bad until we took all our meals in our rooms just to have peace and then we felt as if we were escaping each time the ship docked and we got off . I have been on 6-7 cruises and had never had that experience. I have not traveled Norwegian again
