I just received this today. It doesn't work at all. It states that it's made for IPhone iPod and iPads. I put it into the jack for my iPhone 6+ and it doesn't function at all- no sound. I went to the box a second time looking for a user manual or instructions on the box to see if there was somehow a need to set it up or pair it even though it plugs right into the jack. No user manual. No instructions. Just a useless warranty card. Looked up the website. Found the item on the website but there are no instructions there either. Under "packaging" tab it states that it will include a user manual. It didn't. And the website has no digital one, either. I went to "contact us" under support and typed out the issue. The form spins but never sends. Useless item. Don't buy it.

The microphone worked well for recording voices for a video in a quiet room.
However our reason for getting it was in the hope that it would record clearer audio when used at concert (e.g. a punk show in small venue). Unfortunately there was actually more distortion using the microphone than there was using the S7's built in microphone.
So don't get it for recording in a very loud environment.
(I'm not surprised it didn't work, but I had hoped it would.)

Also, Shazam does not work while the Sarmonic microphone is plugged in.

Finally, the foam cover went missing the first time it was used. Sarmonic cannot/will not provide replacements. Product would be better if it shipped with spares. Be sure to tape it on or otherwise secure it so it doesn't fall off.

This only gets 2 stars because it's fairly cheap.

Admittedly, I ordered this because of the price and the seeming ease-of-use. As is almost always the case, you get what you pay for--in this case, it was an inability to get the microphone to work out of the box (the instructions indicated that all you need to do is plug into the not-included adaptor and plug the adaptor into the phone and you're good to go...which is not true), difficulty finding the appropriate customer service page on the manufacturer's website, and once there finding any information that was helpful. The issue: when I recorded a video with the microphone plugged into the iPhone (via the adaptor--not included), there would be no sound at all with the recording. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch. I unplugged, plugged back in, adjusted checked the settings on my phone...everything I could think of. Nothing solved the problem: when I recorded without the microphone attached, the sound was fine (well...as fine as sound can be with an iPhone microphone, that is). With the microphone attached? Nothing. As mentioned above, I looked through the minimal instructions included with the microphone--no help. I spent the better part of an hour looking for information on the manufacturer's website--nothing. I did, though, find other people who had the same issue posing questions in a public forum...they didn't get any answers, either, but at least I didn't feel alone in my troubles. Note: I did drop the company an e-mail asking for assistance...and I'm still waiting to hear back from them. It's been a month now.

Realizing that the company wasn't likely to provide answers to my questions, I decided to Google "how to set up Saramonic SmartMic Mini to an iPhone 7" and found a helpful YouTube video: it seems that in order for this microphone to work on a smart phone, a splitter is required (in addition to the adapter). Without the splitter, the iPhone thinks that the microphone is a headphone and treats it as such. So, I hopped on Amazon and ordered the splitter, realizing at this point that it would have been much less expensive to have purchased a higher quality microphone in the first place...but I wasn't about to give up. I'd come too far. A few days later, the splitter arrived. I plugged the microphone into the splitter, the splitter into the adaptor and the adaptor into the iPhone and: voila! Sound! It worked! The quality of that sound, though? The sound on the recording using the microphone was of equal quality to the sound of the recordings I had made with only the iPhone's built-in microphone.

Long story short? I'd give this 'zero' stars if I could...

Definitely reduced some of the signature "phone mic" noise on my Android and added warmth to my voice. Doesn't improve range though. Best used within a foot of the mic.

When plugged in it takes over your audio so you cannot record and have bluetooth earbuds connected hoping to hear. If using for Tiktoks you will need to unplug the mic to hear the playback every single time.
