This bag is worth every penny you will spend. Let me begin by saying this is the perfect size for carry on in regional/business/commercial aircraft. I was able to fit this easily into overheads on a CRJ-900, -700, EMB 145, 777LR, and A340-600.

I took this bag for one week to Germany and Poland. I also checked a bag because this was for a work trip, so in this bag i carried the following items and still had space to spare. This bag was perfect for quick switch between travel backpack and office satchel. It was able to hold very large bottles of water. The extra straps inside to tighten down and on the outside made it easier to reduce the bag profile. If you watch the youtube videos on this please note it's what they say it is. Your success will come on how you organize it. With that being said, there are not a lot of pockets etc.. In the second picket there is a zipper mesh pocket, and a tablet/laptop sleeve. However if you have pack like i listed below it would be wise to have ziploc bags for different groups of items. It helps keep it organized.

Now for mobility. I pulled two hail Mary runs on my return trip home. And when i say runs, i mean full sprint dodging babies and the elderly - jumping luggage and chairs. In both Munich and Chicago i literally grabbed the shoulder straps, the chest strap, and waist strap and pulled them tight. And it was a flawless run, with no fear of the bag falling off or interfering with my ability to run.

Perfect for a 2.5 week trip to Europe

After much research, I purchased three of these, two black and one red, all small/medium, for a recent 17 day trip to Europe. My husband and I used the black ones and my fifteen year old daughter used the red one. They worked beautifully! We each took four outfits, plus the ones we wore, so five total, two pairs of shoes, plus toiletries (my daughter took her full size flat iron), hoodies/jackets, and raincoats. While my daughter and I each had a separate (Travelon) bag, my husband put his electronics (iTouch, 10" Kindle Fire) in his backpack. I also put a full size heavy duty plastic zip top file folder in mine with all of our travel documents, tickets, etc. (in the laptop sleeve). We did very little shopping as that's not our thing, but my daughter did pick up a pair of high tops in Paris and had no problem bringing them home.

We moved from cooler weather in Paris and Salzburg to warmer weather in Venice and Rome, necessitating a wide ranging wardrobe. Using Eagle Creek packing cubes, I was able to pack the following in my pack: a pair of jeans, a medium length skirt, two knee length skirts, a pair of gym weight capris, four tees, a pair of PJs, five pairs of underwear, one bra, two pairs of socks, a car coat length heavy hooded LL Bean raincoat, a pair of Toms, two toiletry bags (a TSA one and another), a small make up bag, a bag with ten medication bottles, a large heavy plastic zip top envelope with all travel documents and tickets, and a small bag of misc necessities (small USB cords, small caribiners, etc.). The bag weighed about 15 lbs packed and I had plenty of room left. On the return trip, I easily found room for a very well bubble wrapped small ceramic gift item, a t-shirt, and a boxed shot glass. I could certainly have brought more home. My six foot tall husband packed, using cubes, a pair of jeans, three pairs of cargo shorts, PJ pants, four tees, underwear, undershirts, a raincoat, a pair of shoes, his dopp kit + TSA bag, Kindle, iTouch, charging cords, plug adapter kit, and had room to spare. His packed bag weighed 17 lbs.

Converting these bags from backpacks to duffles, to take on and off planes and some trains, was a breeze. The back panel unzips and rolls down, securing with Velcro at the bottom and releasing the straps. In reverse, just separate the Velcro, tuck the straps and zip up. The process is very fast and very easy and we found the bags easy to carry with the handles or the messenger bag strap. A key for me is that I also found that the messenger strap didn't get in the way when I was using the bag as a backpack, a plus since I didn't want to hassle with unclipping it and putting it back.

We found these to be very comfortable. My stubborn fifteen year old whined about hers until she let her Dad adjust her straps and convince her to use her sternum strap and hip belt. Then she also found it comfortable! I won't pretend we used them every day, though. We carried them about every four days, from apartments through Metro stations, onto trains, and walking to apartments. We also carried them in airports and transporting to and fro. It was absolutely enough to get a sense of how they feel, but not a sense of their durability, though I expect they'd do very well. We were on Air Canada the whole way to and from Europe and had no problem carrying these on.

I would recommend these packs without reservation. In retrospect, my husband would have gone with the next size up. He had no problems at all with the small/medium as far as packing it, but thinks he might have preferred the feel of the larger pack on his back. He has used this pack on two other trips and been happy with it both of those times, as well.

We purchased the Osprey Porter 30 with the attached Daylite pack for my twelve year old and I'll post reviews for those, too.

The BEST bag for lightweight international travel

I read about this bag on a couple travel blogs where it received high praise. I figured it was worth a shot since it was on sale on Amazon with a free Prime return.

First Impressions:
My first surprise was at how small it was coming out of the box, and I was unsure how much it would actually fit because of the oblong shell shape. I had read that it is undersized for the carry-on limits for airplane travel - even on international flights, where the dimension restrictions are even smaller - but it still seemed too small. The second surprise came when I did the test pack and it just kept swallowing everything I had planned on packing. I figured I would have to buy compression bags to make this thing work, but they were unnecessary. The shape is a little strange, but once I figured out the best way to balance my bulky items (shoes, toiletry kit, etc), I actually opened up more space than I needed. After playing with all the straps and carrying configurations, I decided to keep it.

In Use:
This bag did everything I needed it to do on a two week trip to Italy. It easily slipped into the overhead compartment on all my flights, and it even fit in the tiny luggage racks above the seats on all the trains. The backpack straps and waist band adjusted easily to balance the weight. It was more comfortable to wear it when we were waiting in line at airports and train stations than to take it off and set it down. When we got to our gates and terminals, the straps quickly zip into their compartment, and the single shoulder strap clips in even faster. The single shoulder strap isn't comfortable for longer durations, but was perfect for the short amount of time while boarding/disembarking, and makes the bag easy to navigate those tight space (I hate when people carry backpacks or purses behind them and slap everyone down the aisle).

The compression straps do a great job not only keeping everything in place, but also adding a layer of security. The exterior straps are mounted by another layer of ripstop fabric that encases all the zippers, making them difficult to locate and access while strapped down tightly. This costs you a couple seconds and extra effort if you need to get into the bag while you're on the go, but there is no way for someone to easily get into the bag while out of sight on your back without you knowing. The zippers are paired, so you can lock them with a small padlock if that's your thing.

Summary:
Osprey hit the mark when they designed this bag. If you like to travel light and agile, you will enjoy this bag. It won't top the ease and accessibility of a rolling suitcase in an airport, but it's close. For someone who was traveling to remote areas and old cities, having everything off the ground was much easier 99% of the time (verified after watching my friend pull his suitcase half a mile, uphill, on cobblestones).

I paired my Farpoint 40 with a much smaller ripstop bag (for easy under seat access on flights/trains and short excursions away from our airBnBs) and it was perfect: Gonex Ultra Lightweight Packable Backpack Hiking Daypack Handy Foldable Camping Outdoor Travel Cycling Backpacking(Red)

If I didn't need it I could easily stuff it into my larger bag. Both pictured here while waiting for my wife as she shopped for a purse in the Venice airport. The comfort and utility were worth looking like a doofus.

Manch einer der aufgeführten ist schicker, cooler, leichter, hat vielleicht bessere Features wie versteckte Taschen oder lässt sich angenehmer tragen als der Osprey. Alle sind ungefähr gleich groß und auch Qualitativ vergleichbar. Der EagleCreek wirkt vielleicht etwas weniger wertig, ist aber auch sehr gut verarbeitet und der AEVOR lässt sich auf 45l vergrößern. Der Arcido Akra war optisch mein Favorit. Naises Teil!

Ich habe also meine Sachen in PackingCubes gepackt und nacheinander die Rucksäcke befüllt. Dabei zeigte sich das der Osprey am meisten "frisst". Wenn das Hauptfach tight gefüllt ist, ist er der einzige bei welchem man die anderen Fächer wie Laptopfach oder Außentaschen noch nutzen kann. Bei den anderen war das leider nicht mehr wirklich möglich. Außerdem hat er diverse Schlaufen an welchen man zb. mittels Karabiner weitere Sachen (Schuhe, Soundbox..) anhängen kann. Und die Verarbeitungsqualität sowie die Reisverschlüsse sind (auf Kosten des Gewichts 1.4kg - der Leichteste knapp 1kg) die Beste der getesteten.

Pro Osprey:
- größtes Fassungsvermögen
- sehr durchdacht
- beste Verarbeitung
- beste Reisverschlüsse
- super zu tragen da "echter" Rucksack mit Bauch- und Brustgurt
- Tragegurte verstaubar (sehr praktisch im Flugzeug)

Kontra Osprey
- relativ schwer
- nicht so schick / ziemlich verbreitet

Den Osprey Farpoint 40 kann ich uneingeschränkt empfehlen. Gegebenenfalls werde ich meine Rezension nach der Reise überarbeiten.

Update: Nie wieder Gepäck aufgeben, das macht alles so viel einfacher und hilft enorm nur die wirklich wichtigen Sachen mitzunehmen! Der Urlaub liegt 5 Monate zurück und gerade hab ich zufällig den Rucksack im Schrank gefunden. Ich kann kaum glauben das mein ganzes Zeug da reingepasst hat. Klamotten für 1-2 Wochen, Trekkingschuhe, Flipflops, Taucherbrille, iPad, Kindle, Ladegeräte, Kabel, Medikamente uvm...
Das funzt natürlich nur wenn man ausschließlich in den Sommer reist. Für verschiedene Klimazonen ist er dann wohl doch zu klein

Eigentlich sollte ich von Osprey Provisionen bekommen da sich mittlerweile 5-6 Bekannte auf meinen Rat hin das Teil gekauft haben. Habe bisher nix negatives gehört

Why didn't I buy this sooner! Perfect bag

I needed a new bag for short work trips and commuting, my old leather bag was starting to hurt my shoulder as it was a single strap bag - it was time for a bag I could carry on both shoulders, and ideally one with a hip strap for bigger journeys.

After much research and seeing very expensive kickstarter projects with great designs, I found this. Not stupidly expensive, but seemed to tick all the right boxes for me.

The first test - would it fit my 15.6 inch Laptop? Yes, it fits perfectly. You wouldn't be able to get a bigger one in, this is defiantly the maximum size. The Laptop pouch is nicely padded and doesn't waste space. The pouch is in the front section of the bag, so my only complaint there is that with a full main section the weight isn't going to be int he best position, BUT the straps are so comfy and you have waist straps, so I don;t imagine it will matter too much.

Carrying - I've never had so many carry options on a bag, top handle, side handle, shoulder straps, waist strap and a single long shoulder strap! The shoulder and waist straps store nicely in a zipped pocket, so you can carry the bag neatly using just the other handles.

Overall quality is great, it feels sturdy, the zips work well and feel high quality. The full package just feels well thought out.

Room - For basic commuting I haven't even needed to touch the main compartment! The main compartment could easily fir a few days travel wear in it with my laptop and other stuff in the front. this bag is going to be my go to bag for pretty much all trips now.

Very pleased with this purchase.

Bag Of Wonders - Especially Travelling!

I have been researching for bags for a good week to find a perfect bag to go on nice weekend trips around Europe & general camping. I found that the Osprey line had good reviews, and so it did! It's absolutely fantastic! I was also researching the higher capacity bags on the Osprey line but contacted Osprey directly and they recommended me this since it's ideal for using as cabin luggage. My back was also struggling from my previous back pack, well no more! This has shoulder straps, waist strips & easily adjustable for nice comfortable walking.

If you're thinking of getting a higher capacity, there is a chance you may get charged extra at the airport. But, trust me, this bag will do more than enough! There are straps inside the bag to hold your clothing/items down so they don't move while in transit. It's a durable bag, also the zips allow padlocks on them for extra security of which I would recommend. Overall for the price its a bargain!

If you're thinking of what size to buy, if you contact Osprey you can have a PDF file which tells you the ideal height for the sizes instead of using the dedicated app they have. I bought S-M and i'm 5ft 7 (170cm) and it fits like a charm. I would suggest to go a size up if you are over 177cm. But please do not hesitate! Please see the image for sizing instructions!

Ich glaube dieser Rucksack war das beste was mir passieren konnte. .Von außen wirkt er ein bisschen größer als ein normaler Rucksack.

Egal ob als Handgepäckrucksack auf kleinen Reisen oder als Reiserucksack für längere Reisen...er kann alles.
Ich habe ihn nun drei Wochen in Amerika auf einen Roadtrip getestet.

Das Hauptfach wirkt erstmal klein, hat aber die Wirkung einer Mary Poppins-Tasche oder eines Harry Potter-Zeltes ;-)

Meine Packwürfel passten super in den Rucksack, sodass ich alles super sortiert und organisiert im Rucksack verstauen konnte. Dadurch das man den Rucksack wie ein Koffer aufklappen kann, konnte ich mich bei jeder Gelegenheit ganz leicht am Rucksack bedienen ohne "rum-zuwühlen".

Die verschiedenen Ebenen machen es leicht Dinge so zu sortieren, dass man die Sachen, die man schnell erreichen muss immer leicht erreichbar nach vorne packt und die Kleidung die man am Flughafen eh nicht auspackt, eben ins hintere Fach packt.

Der Rucksack lässt sich bei meinen 1,63m hervorragend tragen, ich hatte keine Probleme. Zwei Gurte stabilisieren und können noch einmal kräftig komprimieren. Was mir daran besonders gefällt, sind die beiden kleinen Laschen, die verhindern, dass die Gurte außen herumbaumeln. Feinheiten, ich weiß. Aber eben eine Feinheit, an die gedacht wurde.

Am Ende meines Trips war der Rucksack so voll, dass ich Angst hatte, dass die Reißverschlüsse kaputt gehen würden... aber falsch gedacht. Der Rucksack hat alles mitgemacht! ALLES. Ich habe ihn als "koffer" abgegeben und er kam genauso wie er vorher war auch wieder raus. Man kann alle Schnallen und Gurte super verstecken und verstauen, so dass er an nichts hängen bleibt.

So comfortable... with a few flaws

First off, this rucksack is extremely comfortable, thanks to the padded waist strap that sits snugly around the waist and takes weight off the back / shoulder straps (which are also good). The rucksack feels well made and classy (and for this price it has to be).

Regarding the compartments, the laptop pouch is insulated, held off the ground, and takes my large Dell Latitude business laptop with protruding battery (although I can't fully close the velcro retainer around it). And the main compartment opens fully to make loading stuff easy.

There are however a few silly design flaws in this product, mainly that all compartments take space from each other. You expect a bit of that, but here it's obvious. Worst of all are the bottle holders - your bottle will dig into the outer compartment, which will push back if you have a laptop in there. And the top outer compartment, while initially welcome for keys, phone etc... yes you guessed it, digs into its neighbour.

For a premium product, I'm disappointed with the above flaws, which is why I only give it 3/5 overall. However, if you only have a laptop, a few clothes, a book, a bottle, then you're ok. All I'll say is that it's advertised as 40l but it's not always the best managed 40l (to be honest, that's the case for most other 40l backpacks, but often at half the price).

But it for the comfort and quality & protective laptop sleeve. But try it out full at home first before deciding whether to send it back - I've kept mine, it just about redeems itself ;-)

ps. other features missing include rain cover, better internal organisation for small items, and external hooks / attachments etc. You can't have it all...
