We purchased this as a gift for Grandma’s book collection. We have enjoyed reading about Katie’s adventures in travel, this story included. The content is a little advanced for my 2 year old, but she will grow into it soon. She loved seeing the big double decker buses and the lion too. We will be purchasing more Katie books for our home libraries.

We traveled to London with our 8 and 10 year-old granddaughters and read this book on the plane on the way there. Then we followed Katie's imaginary journey with the lion of Trafalgar Square on our journey around London, photographing our two granddaughters with a little lion of their own in all the places Katie visited with her little brother. It made the trip! You don't have to go to London to love this book, but it doesn't hurt.
Look up the other books in this series. Katie and the Impressionists is a particularly fun way to introduce kids to art.

I used this book to accompany an art lesson on England for a group of preschoolers ages 2-5. It was a little long for them but would be perfect for grades K-4 or so. Lots of great visuals and touches on the many tourist sites of London. Would be a great precursor if you were taking a child to visit England and London in particular.

We borrowed this book from the Library prior to our trip to London. My 6 1/2 yr old loved the book and it helped her get familiar with the Landmarks. We of course made it to Trafalgar Square the 1st day (as well as our last) to climb on the lions and take pictures. My daughter even looked for the blanket from the book. It was a great picture book to prepare for our vacation and now that we're back, we're buying our own copy as a souvenir.

This is a great book, especially for my 6-year-old Anglophile! He's so interested in anything having to do with London, and this book is factual but also a lot of fun. I'd recommend for any child interested in London or traveling to London.

Cute book with lots of great landmarks. This is a good book to teach kids a little bit about London and some of the well known places in London before travel.

We really love England around my house, and my 6-year-old has absorbed some of that love. It has been great fun to walk through this book and point out places that we have been, historical elements, fun facts, etc. The Katie series is great!

Katie is off to London to see...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 9, 2017Verified Purchase
...the sights, with Grandma and, this time, little brother Jack goes along too.
Delighted to find some of the original covers, I started at the very beginning, with Katie’s Picture Show and have been hooked ever since! A number of the titles explore the art world further & one visits a natural history museum, but this story is still an adventure, albeit of a different kind.
As usual, there is an educational slant to the story and scope for further discussion, throughout.

From the back cover:
‘Katie, Jack and Grandma are off to London to see the sights!
Adventure follows Katie wherever she goes, and soon wonderful things begin to happen as she and Jack set out on an amazing and magical tour of London...with a most unusual guide.
Join Katie and Jack on their fun-packed sightseeing tour, as they discover London and its thrilling attractions.
ooOoo
Measuring in around 25 cm x 21.25 cm, this is a larger than average width paperback.
I simply love the illustrations in the ‘Katie’ books – the eye for detail, e.g. the No 9 to Trafalgar Square that starts the tour on the very first page and off the trio go on a big red bus.
On arrival at Trafalgar Square, Grandma is, as usual, tired and sits herself down for a little nap.
Katie looks after Jack as they take a closer look at a bronze lion on a stone plinth.
But this is no ordinary lion as it turns out, and as the sun begins to shine, the tour of London really begins. A flying visit to St Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London & the Crown Jewels, Tower Bridge, the Globe Theatre, the views from the London Eye, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace...phew...time to chill out a bit in a park, in more ways than one!
A packed trip for them all but more so for the lion who is feeling the strain and suggests the bus back to Trafalgar Square, after the children indulge in a bit of shopping in Harrods (where else?)!
Back at base, the sun goes in and all is back to normal (or is it?) as Grandma wakes and suggests they start their sightseeing tour!
This time, the children are too tired and nod off!
Eagle-eyed observers might pick up the nonchalant change at the end of the story, the little bit of evidence that shows an adventure really did take place!
The final page has a short paragraph about some of the sights visited, correct at the time of publication of the book.
The other titles in the series are (in no particular order):
Katie meets the Impressionists
Katie and the Sunflowers
Katie and the British Artists
Katie and the Waterlily Pond
Katie and the Mona Lisa
Katie and the Starry Night
Katie and the Bathers
Katie and the Spanish Princess
Katie and the Dinosaurs
And...young Katie has also been much further afield, i.e. north of the border in Katie in Scotland , and what fan can resist the extra special Katie's London Christmas ?
I wonder what she will be up to next?

Excellent introduction to London for children
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 31, 2010Verified Purchase
There is not much more to add to the reviews already posted save to say that it is an excellent book.
You can visit all of the sites mentioned in the book by doing the following round robin tour you can start from any point.
Start at Trafalgar Square and walk through St James' park to Buckingham Palace (changing the guard gets very busy and children may not be able to see everything plus it is not on every day all year round) and then on to the Houses of Parliament via Horseguards and Downing Street. Get on to the Thames Clipper at the London Eye (you get reduced fairs with a valid travelcard and it is faster than the tourist boats) just over the river from the Houses of Parliament and take it down to Tower Pier, on the way you'll go past Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. From Tower Pier walk past the Tower of London to Tower Bridge then walk around the perimeter of the Tower of London to Tower Hill. Near to the statue of a builder on the same side of the road is the bus stop for the number 15 bus. Wait for the Routemaster London Bus which accepts normal Travel Cards to come as there are modern buses on route 15 as well. The bus will take you past St Paul's Cathedral and on to Trafalgar Square.
You won't see the sites in the same order as Katie but you will get to see them all. Enjoy.

Lovely book! I got this for my daughters topic at school which was on London. The teacher liked the book so much that she read it out to the whole class. It talked about a child visiting London’s landmarks and was a good summary portrayed in a captivating way for kids.

Another lovely Katie story.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 1, 2017Verified Purchase
Used as a starting point for a topic on London. It was a great introduction to the key sites built into an entertaining story. My children enjoyed it and it served as an introduction to other Katie stories. They inspired plenty of classroom discussion, writing and art work.
