The Downside first since that's what you probably want to read.
Well...If any i'd say It's slightly complicated to use, you're going to have to give it a good run through each time you take it out.
Also, you know you have a light on your head..its a bit big but not any larger than the rest on the market in the same class but not bothersome at all, probably not for joggers.

For the good:
Super super solid construction and feel. VERY NICE in a day in age when everything feels like its made from recycled toilet paper. WOW this thing is bright....I mean bright...i'm not completely convinced its not somehow nuclear powered. This thing is so bright if you look at it you not only go blind you go deaf as well. If you're like me and like the red and green lights for the night and accidentally turn on the white then just take a seat for half an hr unless you have a cane or seeing eye dog lol. It has a very secure latch system (pictured) that i really can't ever see opening by accident even if dropped. 4 colored lights for you night hikers like me and at any brightness level including strobe, rubberized material where you need to grip, easily adjustable headband, 3 YEAR WARRANTY, Waterproof, dustproof, tilts way down to point almost directly down. I've been using headlamps for yrs and most are cheaply made but I was really surprised by not only the settings and capabilities which are amazing but the feel of it, it just feels solid like quality, sadly that doesn't come through in pictures. I'd easily say i'd rather have this on than my Petzl. If you're on the fence about it like i was i'd say don't be. Also mind was delivered in 3 days.

Awesome! Super bright! Very durable. Comfortable! Has a little pad behind the light so the plastic isn't against your head. Has a super bright setting, "powertap", that is easily turned on by a side button that you touch. Easy to go from low light to max light and back quickly. Very awesome light dimming feature for all the lights (main light, side light, red, green and blue) allows you to get your optimal brightness setting very easily. Will keep last setting you were on when you turn it off and on again. Easy locking feature so it won't turn on accidentally in your pack or something. Has a tiny battery level indicator light that is on for a few seconds when you turn it on. Doesn't weigh very much with the batteries in it. Takes four AAA, and has an easy to open but effective locking mechanism so your battery compartment won't come open. Good Water proof seal, though I've only gotten it wet, not submerged it. Only potential con is that it's a little confusing at first to figure out how to get to every setting. I took a picture or the instructions so you can see for yourself. Also included are videos of some of the feature including the power tap and dimming settings. The pictures are of battery light (little green light below main light), size, rotation angle and brightness comparison to my other headlamp, a 100 lumen LED. Amazing light! Would highly recommend it to anyone! Worth the money!

This light is durable and reliable. I like that it takes four AAA batteries instead of a rechargeable. I've had a rechargeable headlamp that I've used and loved for the past 5 years but if the batteries were getting low or it accidentally got turned on in my pack, well let's just say you don't have much of a light without a power source. I like being able to carry extra batteries and knowing I'll have power. My other light was brighter than this one but it's plenty bright. I use it for hunting, fishing, and anything else I need to do in the dark!

This light gets some negative reviews for difficulty of use and while I agree it could be made a bit simpler, it is NOT overly complicated at all and is an amazing light. Hopefully this will help some people.

Biggest things I've read that people are getting stuck on I think can be cleared up with this information:

-There is only one button with only 4 functions: press, double press, press and hold, and triple press (only for strobe)
-There are only two main light modes: white and colored.
***To switch between them, (if light is on) simply press the power button once, it'll shut off, then press and hold the power button for 2 seconds and it'll turn on in the other mode***
-White has 2 sub-modes: main and flood.
-Colored has 3 sub-modes: red, blue, and green.
***While in either white or colored mode, a double-press of the power button will switch between the different sub-modes***

Other functions:

-When light is on, press and hold the power button in any light mode to adjust brightness. Let go when desired brightness is reached.
-In any light mode, tap the touch pad on the side to achieve maximum brightness in that mode. Tap again to go back to previous brightness.
-3 presses of the power button will enter strobe mode.
-4-6 second hold of power button will lock/unlock the light.

I think if people break it down and realize there are only the two main modes and it's not really that complicated to switch between them, it makes it much easier to operate.

There are some instructional videos on YouTube that will help if you're a more visual learner.

I bought this to replace my old black diamond that somehow went missing.
This one is brighter along with added green and blue Led lights. However, after replacing the first set of batteries
with fresh ones, the light switch malfunctioned resulting in having no control of lamp brightness or colors.
I contacted Black Diamond via email and filed a warranty claim, including my Amazon receipt
and a photo of the headlamp.. They immediately responded, sending a new complete Storm to my house withing 3 days..
Now that is customer service at its best!!
I am hoping that the new headlamp gives me years of illumination.

Very impressed with the Storm Head Torch, comes complete with 4 AAA batteries and has a very neat locking mechanism to open up to install them, very well made and very bright with a strobe effect if required. Not sure if I'll used the coloured lenses (Red, Blue and Green) but they're a nice touch if required and easy to use just by flicking on the front button and cycling through.
Took me half an hour to open the packaging so no issues there, I opted for the Olive colour (shooting/Angling) and it's cheaper than the black ones, dunno why, in conclusion, delighted with the Storm and very very bright, does the job perfectly.
Update 1st Feb. The Storm has just stopped working so changed the batteries (only used for a few minutes and nothing....just totally dead)

so changed the batteries again and still nothing, used 12 new batteries that work in other things but the Storm refuses to come to life so will be sending it back which is a shame as it does a good job but no good to man nor beast if it doesn't work so it's gone from 5 stars to zero, not happy.
Product returned 2 weeks ago and still no reply from seller, getting concerned, where do I go from here?
Up date, managed to get hold of Amazon help Dept and had a full refund, took a while but got there in the end, shame as when it was working performed very well.

Works as described. Really good functionality with a logical control system. Takes a minute to get your head around but makes perfect sense. Very useful being able to dim any light to the relevant level and this saves so you can switch between modes as you left them. Useful multi colour LED and a good neutral spread on the low light unfocused white light. Lock function is great so it doesn't turn on in bags or pockets (and I stuff mine).. Quick touch button for full beam... and it is waterproof. Also has a good duel strap tightening system that doesn't put any buckles against your head and seems to hold firm.
I'd like a bit more high beam focus for more throw but the light output is as it should be. Nitpicking, the corner of the pad that sits against my head is every so slightly scratchy in one corner but doesn't actually cause irritation and it seems unlikely that's a common flaw.
Good functionality and build for the price. Good general purpose head torch. Found no problems yet

Great sturdy head torch. It's just over complicated to use. And it still uses disposable batteries! I don't know why a good brand like black diamond doesn't have rechargeable battery in it's work horse head torch?? However the light modes are good and bright when you want bright and they can be dimed to allow comfortable reading light. I think they have still over complicated sorting threw the different light modes. But it's still a good torch and would have had more stars if it wasn't a pain to get to a different light modes. At least the strap is comfortable. I'm going to stick with it and hopefully practice will help me use it better.

Nachfolger mit deutlichen Verbesserungen

Ich besitze den Vorgänger dieser Lampe, mit dem ich sehr zufrieden bin. Als meine Freundin nun eine Stirnlampe brauchte, haben wir zunächst die Black Diamond Spot bestellt, da diese etwas leichter ist, als die Storm. Allerdings war diese Lampe eine Enttäuschung, da das Batteriefach nicht abgedichtet war.
Also haben wir anschließend das aktuelle Modell der Black Diamond Storm bestellt. Bei dieser ist das Batteriefach abgedichtet, was für mehrtägige Touren mit Zelt oder Tarp auch nötig ist. Auf Tour ein nasses Batteriefach zu trocknen kann störend sein, da man bei kühler nasser Witterung die Lampe mit geöffnetem Batteriefach in den Schlafsack nehmen müsste. Vollkommen illusorisch.
Die Black Diamond Storm habe ich nach Erhalt direkt für fünf Minuten ins gefüllte Waschbecken gelegt. Danach war sie von innen immer noch trocken, wie man anhand der Spezifikationen, allerdings auch erwarten kann.
Der Spot für die Fernsicht streut bei dieser Lampe stärker in die Breite. Aufgrund der höheren Helligkeit dieser Lampe ist dies ein echter Fortschritt. So sieht man einen wesentlich breiteren Bereich vor sich, was das Orientieren und Finden von Wegen in der freien Natur deutlich erleichtert. Das Licht der Nahfeldausleuchtung wurde ebenfalls deutlich verbessert. Im Sichtbereich der Augen wird nun alles im nahen Umkreis gut ausgeleuchtet. Dies ist perfekt, wenn man etwas im Rucksack oder Zelt sucht oder etwas mit den Händen arbeiten muss.
Sehr gut finde ich auch, dass bei maximaler Helligkeitseinstellung der Spot und die Nahfeldausleuchtung beide aktiv sind. Gerade im Wald ist es schon beeindruckend, wie viel man so sieht. Beieindruckend ist auch, wie nahtlos sich biede Lichtbereiche überschneiden. Hier sind keine störenden Helligkeitssprünge ich Leuchtbild erkennbar. Dies erleichtert die Wahrnehmung für das menschliche Auge ungemein.
Zudem speichert die Lampe die letzte Helligkeitseinstellung.
Der Rotlichtmodus ist bei dieser Lampe deutlich heller geworden, als beim Vorgänger und somit im Nahbereich nun wirklich gut nutzbar. Durch rotes Licht verengen sich die Pupillen des Auges nicht so stark, was von Vorteil ist, wenn man die Lampe nur für einen kurzen Augenblich nutzen will, sich dann aber wieder ohne Lampe zurechtfinden will.
Black Diamon spricht in der Anleitung von einem Strobo-Modus, den es allerdings nicht wirklich gibt. Vielmehr blinkt die die Lampe einmal pro Sekunde bei maximaler Helligkeit auf. Dies ist sowohl mit weißem, als auch mit rotem, blauem oder grünem Licht möglich. In einer Notsituation kann man sich mit dieser Funktion gut bemerkbar machen. Meiner Meinung nach ist solch eine Funktion auch viel wichtiger als ein Strobomodus an einer Kopflampe.
In der Lampe sollte man am besten leistungsstarke Akkus, wie z.B. die Panasonic Eneloop Pro AAA verwenden, da man mit diesen eine wesentlich längere Laufzeit erreichen kann, als mit normalen Batterien. Ganz zu schweigen, von der geringeren Umweltbelastung.

Fazit: Die Lampe ist sehr gut durchdacht und leuchtstark für eine Lampe, die mit AAA-Batterien oder Akkus betrieben wird.
