UPDATE:

Lifeguards have reopened Four Mile Beach.

EARLIER:

Lifeguards have closed Four Mile Beach in Port Douglas after a curious baby croc wandered too close to shore this afternoon.

The 1.5-metre juvenile was sitting just a few metres offshore much to the delight of onlookers.

The crocodile was first spotted at approximately 3:40 pm 100 meters south of the lifeguard tower and has been swimming along the beach between the tower and the rocks at the northern end of the beach ever since.

Lifeguards warn beachgoers to stay away from the water until the beach reopens.
